Sejak berdirinya Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Lambung Mangkurat pada tahun 1990 sampai sekarang, telah banyak perkembangan yang dialami. Fakultas Kedokteran Unlam sekarang mempunyai 5 program studi, yaitu Program Studi Pendidikan Dokter, Program Studi Kesehatan Masyarakat, Program Studi Ilmu Keperawatan, Program Studi Psikologi, dan Program Studi Kedokteran Gigi.

Sesuai dengan perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan di bidang pendidikan dan kedokteran, Fakultas Kedokteran Unlam telah mengadopsi strategi pembelajaran problem-based learning, dan khusus untuk Program Studi Pendidikan Dokter, sejak tahun 2008 telah menjalankan kurikulum full-block dengan strategi pembelajaran SPICES, yaitu penekanan pada student-centered, problem-based, integrated, community-based, elective, dan systematic learning. Lama pendidikan dokter sampai lulus profesi dokter umum dapat ditempuh dalam 5,5 tahun.

Sarana dan prasarana pembelajaran telah dikembangkan bersamaan dengan pengembangan kurikulum ini. Penyediaan alat bantu ajar, alat laboratorium, mannikin latihan ketrampilan klinis, buku perpustakaan terus dikembangkan. Direncanakan pada pertengahan atau akhir tahun 2011 ini, Fakultas Kedokteran Unlam juga akan menempati Gedung Fakultas Kedokteran Unlam yang baru di sebelah RSUD Ulin Banjarmasin.

Sementara itu, Fakultas Kedokteran Unlam juga terus meningkatkan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan staf akademiknya di bidang ilmu dasar kedokteran, ilmu klinis, dan ilmu pendidikan kedokteran dengan mengirimkan para dosen pengajar untuk mengikuti S2 di dalam dan luar negeri, pendidikan dokter spesialis (PPDS), dan S3. Saat ini, sebanyak 17 orang staf akademik Fakultas Kedokteran Unlam sedang menjalani pendidikan S3, bekerjasama dengan Fakultas Kedokteran Unibraw. Diharapkan pada tahun 2012, semua staf akademik Fakultas Kedokteran Unlam sudah mempunyai staf akademik kompeten di bidang masing-masing, baik subspesialis, spesialis, serta S2 dan S3 ilmu dasar dan pendidikan kedokteran.

To achieve that goal then one UNLAM mission is to develop the widest possible cooperation by any party who has a common vision, both government agencies, industry, universities inside and outside the country as well as nongovernmental organizations.

Through extensive cooperation programs, are expected UNLAM able to develop a quality learning programs so as to produce graduates who have the nation's competitiveness.
